Resting on the Mainline
Title:  Resting on the Mainline
Description:  Due to floods in northern Nevada, the Union Pacific had to reroute a large amount of trains over the Shaffter Subdivision (which itself was crippled by some flood damage too). Due to this traffic jam, the UP began to stack trains out on the Lynndyl Subdivision east of Garfield and west of Salt Lake to prepare them to travel down the Shaffter in conjunction "fleeting" together on the crippled line. I found one such train, left peacefully on one of the mainline tracks; while a flooded field reflected the blue sky.

Title:  Utah Railway Coal Train
Description:  A Utah Railway coal empty with UP units on the lead moves downgrade at Kyune. This train will be loaded at the Savage load out later in the day. This was the last Utah Railway coal train scheduled'to run before Utah Railways coal contract expired. Apparently Utah only has two coal trains scheduled in January to meet some of the contracts tonnage requirements; and then thxy will exit the coal hauling business for the foresee-able future.

Description:  Yesterday (1/22/2016) Spencer Peterson and Matt Paulson posted on the Utah Rail Enthusiasts Facebook page that UP 7400 was going to be coming from Hinkle Oregon to Roper Yard in Salt Lake City; by way of the Ogden Sub. I set out to catch her at Cache Junction, were I ran across another railfan; Kent Bankhead. The two of us waited; on opposite sides of the track as the southbound train with UP 7400 met with a northbound train at the siding. Here is a photo of the northbound train slowing down to park in the siding.

Description:  The special at Warner Siding, the end of the trip. Soon crews will switch locomotives and return the train to Salt Lake City. Once upon a time this siding was bordered by Warner Station, a LA&SL depot built following Union Pacific standards. Warner Station is long gone, although similar buildings survive in Spanish Fork, Logan, and Tintic Utah (the Tintic Station was chopped into two separate segments though)
