Quick View of a Steam Engine |
Description: |
Riding from the back of a intercity bus (probably Flecha Bus if my memory is correct), I got this quick view of a steam engine in a park at Metan. I never got to take a close up shot, but I tried to get a decent photo many times as I passed through on the bus! |

Another Attempt to Shoot the Steamer |
Description: |
Another look at the park steamer on display in Metan. Again another attempt at photographing it from the back of a bus. Again a blurry photo... I rode the bus many times in Argentina making the treks from Tucuman to Salta, Tucuman to Pichanal, Pichanal to Salta, Pichanal to Tucuman, then Tucuman back to Salta! Many bus trips. Wish I could have taken the train instead! |

Branchline |
Description: |
The little used branchline track connecting the Tabacal sugar cane refinery to Pichanal, Salta. I only saw a few trains on this line, and sadly never got a photo of it in action. By 2015 flooding on the Rio Colorado would knock down a bridge on this line, perhaps forever rendering it out of commission. I dont know if this line was ever rebuilt after the bridge collapse, or if the one industry that used it was not enough to justify rebuilding it. |

Puente sobre el Rio Colorado |
Description: |
Another look at the bridge over the Rio Colorado north of Pichanal, Salta. In a years time floods would destroy this rail bridge; something I couldnt have imagined at the time. The photo was taken from a moving bus, and I wish I could have had the chance to take better photos... Since the bridge is now gone that chance will never come again. |

Little Steamer |
Description: |
A very small steam engine that was once used in sugar cane service at Tabacal. Again I had the misfortune of taking the photo from a moving bus; but I love the look of these steamers. They remind me of the Welsh railroads I would read about in Thomas The Tank Engine books when I was a child. |

Ingenio San Juan |
Description: |
It is hard to see in this photo, but tracks are embedded in the ground leading into this sugar cane refinery, evidence of an abandoned spur. The sugar cane industry would have once been a major rail served industry in Argentina, but trucks take most the traffic now. This photo shows the refinery at full work during the harvesting season, and I can only imagine what it would have been like to see it when the rails were still in use. |

Tomba de Richard Maury |
Description: |
Richard F. Maury was born in Philadelphia PA in 1882. He eventually became an engineer and moved to Argentina to work on railroad construction. Seven years after his death in 1950, his body was exhumed and moved to Campo Quijano and buried in a monument located trackside to the line he helped to engineer. The line hosts the tourist train known as El Tren a Las Nubes. |
